A teenager has been charged with attempted murder after a man was shot in broad daylight.

Marico Bassett, 19, from Loyalty Drive, Sandys, is accused of shooting Randolph Lightbourne, 44, also from Sandys.

The incident took place outside Charing Cross Tavern in Sandys, on Friday, July 23.

Mr. Lightbourne is believed to have been wounded in the chest in the shooting, which occurred near the bar's porch around 5.10 p.m.

He was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where he remained yesterday in stable condition.

Bassett was flanked by seven Police officers as he was brought from Hamilton Police Station to Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, July 28.

He was not required to enter a plea to the charge as it must be dealt with by the Supreme Court.

Bassett must return to court on August 11 for a preliminary hearing.
