Cash boost for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Bermuda

By Mikaela IanPearman

The Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Bermuda (BBBS) received a cash boost from the Caribbean Cable and Telecommunications Association (CCTA). CCTA gave the BBBS a $1,000 grant from its 2007 Community Charities Programme. The charity was nominated by CableVision, a member of CCTA.

The cheque was presented to board member Martin Humphrey by Edward Cherwinski, Chief Financial Officer of Bermuda CableVision.

Esme Williams, executive director of the BBBS, said: "On behalf of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Bermuda, I would like to say how excited we are to accept this donation from the Caribbean Cable and Telecommunications Association.

"We are also grateful to Bermuda CableVision for nominating us for the grant for a second year in a row, and we thank the CCTA for their generosity. Importantly, this money will benefit the children we serve who gain so much through positive relationships with mentors in our community."

Previous CCTA grant winners in Bermuda are the Women's Resource Centre and Hope Homes. The Community Charities Programme was established in 1993 and has awarded over $150,000 to Caribbean charities. They usually award ten grants a year.
