Lacrosse rookies shine at Worlds

Island's lacrosse team warm up for Worlds
Bermuda's Under-19 lacrosse team continued their preparations for the World Championships next month with a warm-up tournament against an all-star team from New York. The inaugural King of the Rock tournament saw Team MacWear from Long Island fly to Bermuda to put the Island's youngsters through their paces over the weekend. The U-19 Worlds will be held in Vancouver, Canada, from July 3 to July 12.

Battle set for King of the Rock::
Bermuda will host the second annual King of the Rock lacrosse tournament at the National Sports Center from next Saturday. The tournament will conclude the following day with another four games of lacrosse, also from from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is hosted by the Department of Tourism and admission is free.

Lacrosse players are wanted for U-19 Worlds
The Bermuda Lacrosse Association hopes to use the 2008 ILF Under-19 World Lacrosse Championship as a springboard to garner greater interest in the sport among Island youngsters. For the first time the BLA will be participating in the tournament to be held in British Columbia, Canada, in July after being urged to participate by the International Lacrosse Federation (ILF). In their group they will face Spain, Finland, Germany and Latvia.

Bermuda to take on the world

Magazine boost for Bermuda lacrosse
Bermuda lacrosse has been given an international boost following an article in the sport's leading magazine, Inside Lacrosse (IL). The Bermuda Barracudas debuted as an International Lacrosse Federation affiliate at the 2006 World Games in London, Ontario. The feature, which included how the game came about on local soil, has raised eyebrows outside of Bermuda with fans and players amazed at how a tiny country can play so many sports including a game that is played predominantly in North America.
